Neil Mitchison was Head of the “Security Technology Assessment” Unit at the Ispra site of the JRC. After training in mathematics, and experience in commercial computing and artificial intelligence, Neil joined the European Commission as a computer analyst, working on the Commission’s financial computing systems. In 1988, he moved to the Commission’s Joint Research Centre, where he worked on various projects in risk analysis, the safety of chemical and petrochemical plant, dependable computing, and computing forensics. He has also worked as a broadcaster, and ran the Edinburgh office of the Commission for some years.
